2022.01.28 15:34 Korekoo Mixing song by stems

Hi! I do mix for couple of yeas, and i have a big album to work on. A lot of sounddesing and tweaking sounds with multiple plugins. Here is the deal - my pc cant handle whole session.
Im sending the mix to stem mastering, so i thought, will it work if i mix the song stem by stem?
I printed what i have excluding drum bus, and to that im tweaking drums to taste. When im happy with drums, ill print the drum bus, and move on to bass bus.
Then ill do vocals to drums and bass.
Then ill mix the rest to fit this combo and send it to stem mastering..
Have anyone of you done this? Will it work? THANKS!!! ♥️

2022.01.28 15:34 thoughtsripyouapart I've made a massive mistake and got the wrong base for my new office chair.

I've made a massive mistake and got the wrong base for my new office chair. The black wheeled chair was the old chair, the white wheeled is the new one.
The black chair locks back so I can lean back and put my feet up if I like.
The white chair locks only in the front position, which makes no sense since it is always trying to right itself that way.
It's a very comfy new chair and finally has everything I want (the last buy turned out badly as well) except I can't use it with my feet up (The chair is constantly resisting, even when the dial is altered).
So either I buy a new chair with a base that can lock backwards, or buy a new stand and replace it on the new chair.
I don't know how to do either because I don't know how to search for these features.
Please can anyone help tell me what search terms I need to be looking for? Or if there's a site that can replace stands with the features I need?
I can't spend another 6 months before I build up the confidence to try again and ultimately throw another £100 down the drain.

My spouse has Covid, I've been living in a house with her for the last 4-5 days, and I'm negative (in two PCR tests)
Do I get an immunity boost by being exposed to covid for such a long time? Even if I didn't get sick?
I'm not sure if the body has to "deal" with covid entering its system and therefore there's a boost in immunity, or if there's no "critical mass" of the virus to trigger a boost.

Anyone know of a way to lock markers or items to smpte code? I'm familiar with setting timebase to 'time' as discussed in this thread which is good for staying synced after tempo and meter changes, but the issue is if I change my project start time. Particularly my markers and dialogue tracks getting thrown out of sync.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

2022.01.28 15:34 breakfreeCLP How can defense attorneys represent a guilty person ANSWERED

I am making this post to hopefully answer some questions I see come up often on this sub. This post will allow a much further discussion than what can be typed up each time, and I hope that some of my fellow defense attorneys may contribute with their own perspectives.
The first important thing to know is
REPRESENTING CRIMINAL DEFENDANTS IS NOT ABOUT “WALKING GUILTY PEOPLE.”
The common idea is that a defense attorney’s job is to get their client free of any repercussions of their crime. So then this brings up the moral question of, how do defense attorneys live with themselves when they represent a guilty person?
The problem is that this question’s underlying premise of what a defense attorney does is wrong. The defense attorney’s job is as legal counsel to guide the defendant through the legal process. Another way to look at it is that it is the defense attorney’s job to insure the defendant receives the full protection the law gives him/her. This is because we have an adversarial system. The prosecutor’s job is to represent the State.* It is not the Prosecutor’s job to look out for the client’s best interests, so it would stand to reason that somebody else should have that job in order to insure the process is fair.
We ideally rely on professionals all of the time to provide experience and expertise on topics that we are not expected to know (because we have not made it our career to study that topic). An example would be hiring a plumber to repair a fixture, or consulting a medical doctor for diagnosis and treatment. The legal system is similarly very complex. When a person’s liberty is potentially at stake, the Constitution has decided that this is sufficiently important that all persons should be entitled to the “assistance of Counsel” to get through this process. It wouldn’t be fair to pitch an NFL team against a high school team, and that is the same with the criminal justice system. A system that puts trained prosecutors against lay people from a very diverse range of backgrounds and educations is going to result in unfair outcomes as prosecutors potentially abuse their superior knowledge of the law and process to get what they want.
Sometimes guilty people do walk. But this should be viewed as a failure of the State to prove the case, and not because of the cunning of a defense attorney. I won’t deny that defense attorneys vary considerably on skill, and good money typically does hire a more experienced and able defense attorney. But great defense attorneys lose cases all of the time as well (see Ghislaine Maxwell, a millionaire heiress that hired, among others, a former Assistant US Attorney and a defense attorney that has represented Osama Bin Laden’s senior lieutenants.)
A defense attorney cannot make facts against their client go away simply on principal. If a defense attorney does manage to suppress some evidence, this is always due to that evidence being tainted in some way. For example, the evidence may have been obtained with an invalid warrant or without a warrant, or the photo lineup was not properly done. These are all safeguards the system has to insure that the State is not putting forth shoddy evidence to convict somebody. But as explained before, it is an adversarial system so it is the defense attorney’s job to examine the evidence and insure it holds up to legal scrutiny and it would be the defense attorney’s job to object when the evidence doesn’t appear to.
The second thing to know about a defense attorney’s role is
THE EXISTENCE OF DEFENSE ATTORNEYS PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF ALL PEOPLE (US centric answer, but probably can be extended to other jurisdictions as well)
Every American should know that under the US Constitution, we have the “right to be secure against unreasonable search and seizure.”
But how does this right actually get implemented? You cannot rely on individuals of the State to abide by these written rules sitting on a document at the Smithsonian Institution. The Fourth Amendment will not suddenly come up and protect you like a shield if an officer strolls into your house or backyard to “look around.”
So what exactly prevents police officers from just knocking down doors, entering houses, and looking around? If they find nothing, do they say “I’m sorry, just bill the City for a new door,” and then continue on to the next house until they find something illegal?
Well first of all, waving a copy of the Fourth Amendment in front of the officers probably will not work.
If you’re innocent of any wrongdoing and the officers find nothing, you probably have a good civil rights lawsuit against the officers.
But what if they did find something (like drugs). The police were right and their door to door search paid off!
Not so fast.
Under a legal doctrine known as “fruit of the poisonous tree,” the product of an illegal search is likewise illegal and cannot be used. Defense attorneys accomplish this through what are called a “motion to suppress.” After a motion to suppress is filed, the court will conduct an adversarial hearing where both sides will present facts and arguments on why the evidence is admissible or should be suppressed. It is through this concept that the State is punished for not following the rules and therefore is incentivized to follow the rules. Otherwise, whatever evidence they obtain will be thrown out anyway.
Footnote: * A prosecutor’s job is to represent the State, but their oath is to “ensure justice is done” or “to seek justice.” An ethical prosecutor should not be seeking only convictions. They have a duty to prosecute only those they believe are guilty.
However, there still needs to be an independent review of the evidence because of involuntary biases we all hold. And then there’s the issue of punishment. It would not be reasonable for the Prosecutor to inquire in detail into the Defendant’s situation, life experiences, etc in formulating an appropriate punishment. This is because in order to gain this information, there would have to be frank conversation between the Defendant (and his/her family, friends etc) and the Prosecution. But then what prevents the Prosecution from unknown evidence revealed in this process in further prosecution against the Defendant.
There is a related thing known as a Pre-Sentence Investigation or Pre-Sentence Report (PSI/PSR) but those are not done by the Prosecutor’s office either. Instead they are done by another government agency on behalf of the Court.

All @Soffit’s posts Showing all the @Soffit posts on this thread. Found 14. Waitress - would you complain about this?80 Today 17:53Soffit
I'm trying to understand who is wrong here. I visited a popular food chain restaurant yesterday (peri..chicken) with 1DC. Outside the restaurant was a largeish family group. They were hovering around near the menu, blocking the entrance but started moving inside when they saw us trying to get inside. Just inside the entrance was a hand sanitiser dispenser. We do not use it as we bring our own. They were taking turns on it so we went past them and walked up the long narrow passage to where you would usually wait to be seated (always the same spot - been many, many times).
The waitress, instead of offering us a table, bellowed out something to the effect of 'I think that group entered first didn't they so I'm going to seat them first'. At this point, the group is nowhere near the seating queue and still applying hand sanitiser. She called out to them to come along so they quickly finished, walked over and overtook us. It felt as though she was going out of her way to make a point and make us feel rude. It strongly felt that this may also have been because she was of similar heritage to the group and wanted to make a social justice point but it seemed defensive, really weird and plain wrong in this situation.
This is not meant to be goady. I am just wondering if you would raise it. Go to post

You are being unreasonable here. They were clearly ahead of you, both outside and then inside the restaurant.
And what does this mean:
There was nobody in the queue at all. The start of the queue was five meters further along
Was there, or wasn't there, a queue?!
No there wasn't a queue because that happens away from the entrance many meters away. They did physically enter before us but were by no means queueing

If they were folding up a pushchair, getting a baby out to go towards to ‘wait to be seated’ sign would you have still pushed past?
If they were of the same heritage to you and not the waitress would you still be inclined to complain?
Their common heritage seemed like an issue for her because I always go past people blocking the entrance and I am seated without any issue

You do get seated quickly there. But if that is the case then I think that she was wrong to make a big issue out of it and drag them away from doing whatever they were doing. It is not a formal restaurant so if you are not at the queue stop then that should be that really.
I wont complain but I think she was wrong in turning it into a big issue.

I agree with you OP and I once got flamed here over a similar issue. In my case it was a cafe where you take a tray and slide it along, taking the stuff you want until you get to till. I knew exactly what I wanted. Elderly couple in front of me didn't. They were having a discussion about every single sandwich in the sandwich area. So I went round them, grabbed the cake I wanted from the next area and went to pay. Woman on the till wouldn't let me pay as I jumped the queue. I had to stand there for almost 10 minutes while they faffed about what they wanted. I could have paid, eaten and been out in that time. But apparently I was in the wrong too!
Thank you! I'll know what to avoid in the future!!

If there were two of you and more than two of them, then you wouldn't be on the same table, so why does it matter?
Doesn't the queue start at the hand sanitiser station?
It does? Well if that is the new etiquette then I have learned something new. Thanks

I'm a waitress. I would have probably smiled at you and told you to please bear with me then offered to seat the people behind you rather than making a big deal of it. But yes I would have seated the people behind you first. They were first through the door 🤷‍♀️ fair enough if they'd have told you to go ahead but they didn't so you are after them.
I would have predicted those people quite possibly kicking up a fuss if I let you queue jump and, frankly, I don't get paid enough for that so I would have tried to avoid it by doing the fair thing.
Do you mean that you would have bellowed across a five meter corridor telling them to finish what they hadn't finished doing just so that you could seat them before a customer with a child who was already there?
